CONFERENCE ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING
MEP Javier Zarzalejos has participated today at the conference “Trafficking in human beings:
five years after the joint declaration of religious leaders against 'modern slavery'”, organized
by himself and COMECE on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Joint
Declaration of different religious leaders against modern slavery. During his speech, Zarzalejos
has assured that "trafficking in persons and any relationship that does not respect the
freedom, equality and dignity of persons is a crime against humanity." In his opinion, "it is
imperative that all States fight against trafficking in human beings and that cooperation with
religious entities that carry out invaluable work in caring for victims and restoring their dignity
be strengthened."
The conference was attended by representatives of different religions such as the Catholic, the
Anglican, the Muslim, the Hindu, the Buddhist, the Jewish or the Orthodox.
