COMMEMORATION OF THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SOVIET MASS DEPORTATIONS

On June 15, Javier Zarzalejos participated in the European Parliament in the act of commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the massive deportations of Lithuanians, Estonians, Latvians, Ukrainians, Moldovans, Poles, and Romanians by Stalin.

During the event, organized by MEP Rasa Juknevičienė together with different organizations, the names of the victims were read in their memory. The event was also attended by the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, and several MEPs from different countries.

Javier Zarzalejos assured that “Europe as a project of peace, freedom and democracy is built on the memories of the suffering of millions of Europeans at the hands of totalitarianisms, as in this case the totalitarianism of the Soviet Union” and that “it is not necessary to be Lithuanian, Polish or Romanian to feel that it is something that affects you.
