MEP Javier Zarzalejos has attended the round table on the role that the Caminos de Santiago can play in the European recovery, organized on the occasion of the Xacobeo Year 21-22, which celebrates in this edition 1,200 years of collective travel to Santiago de Compostela from all over Europe.

The event was attended by the vice president of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas and the president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijoo. The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, sent a message of support in which she stated that “the Camino de Santiago has a very special place in the history of Europe and is one of the three great Christian pilgrimages.”

The participants reflected on the opportunities and challenges faced by the Jacobean routes, which today have become important tourist and cultural itineraries that attract thousands of visitors from all over Europe.
