MEETING WITH MEMBERS OF AN ASEAN DELEGATION IN THE FRAMEWORK OF A PROGRAM OF THE KONRAD ADENAUER FOUNDATION
On November 10, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized a lunch-debate with a Delegation of ASEAN representatives (South East Asia) in which relevant issues related to the strategic relations between ASEAN and the EU were analyzed.
This high-level delegation was headed by a former minister of Thailand and by the president of Vietnam’s diplomatic academy.
The policy director of the Wilfried Martens Center, Dr. Peter Hefele, as well as MEP Javier Zarzalejos who participated as Vice President of INGE also participated.
Some of the members of the Delegation have recently participated in a study entitled “The Smiling Dragon: China’s Soft Power in Southeast Asia – Implications for Germany and the EU”. During the debate, the tools that China is using to shape public discourse to its benefit in different regions of the world were analyzed.
Javier Zarzalejos explained the work of the INGE commission and analyzed the main conclusions that have been reached in relation to the influence and interference of China in the EU and in other parts of the world.
