ACADEMIC SESSION: “VITAL CHALLENGES 2023. THE EUROPEAN UNION AT THE CROSSROADS”

On January 31, an academic session entitled “Vital Challenges 2023. The EU at the crossroads” took place at the European Parliament. The session was organized by the Spanish Delegation of the EPP together with the Royal European Academy of Doctors (RAED) and was attended by a large academic representation. The RAED is dedicated to research and the dissemination of knowledge, with the aim of contributing to the cultural, scientific, economic and social development of Spain and the European Union.

During the session some of the most important challenges facing the EU were analyzed by prestigious academics: EU foreign and defense policy, new needs of the post-pandemic economy, energy and environment, institutional reforms and values of the union.

The session was opened by Alfredo Rocafort, President of the RAED, and Dolors Montserrat, spokesperson of the PP in the European Parliament. During the opening speech, the PP MEP stressed that “the Parliament must always be open to the academic knowledge available at all times, to scientific knowledge. This is essential to ensure a fruitful democratic debate”.

The organization of the session was coordinated by Teresa Freixes, vice-president of the RAED and Javier Zarzalejos, MEP of the PP. Zarzalejos stated that “the presence of the RAED is a unique opportunity for qualified voices in the field to nourish this Parliament with knowledge, to help us face present and future challenges with better tools.”

“With this session, the EPP promotes a European debate that fits perfectly with the Europeanist culture that nourishes this political group,” concluded Javier Zarzalejos.
