ZARZALEJOS PARTICIPATES IN A ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION ON THE FUTURE SPANISH PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL

Organized by the Tocqueville Club, a round table was held on February 23 to discuss the theme “Spain 2023: Chairing the Council of the EU in times of crisis”.

Participants included Emilio Lamo de Espinosa, Professor Emeritus of Sociology and former President of the Real Instituto Elcano; Joaquín Almunia, former Vice-President of the European Commission and Javier Zarzalejos, as EPP MEP.

The dialogue was organized in coordination with the Jean Monnet Chair in European Politics of the UAB and the Barcelona Center for European Studies of the UPF and was moderated by Ana Mar Fernández Pasarín, Jean Monnet Professor and member of the Board of the Tocqueville Club.

The speakers addressed different topics, such as the experience accumulated in previous Spanish presidencies, the potentially influential political conditioning factors in the Spanish semester, and the planned agenda. This was followed by an exchange of views with the audience, who showed great interest in the topics discussed.
