MEETING WITH YOUNG CONTENT CREATORS IN STRASBOURG
On 17 September, as chair of the European Parliament’s Civil Liberties, Home Affairs and Justice (LIBE) Committee, Javier Zarzalejos met with six content creators in Strasbourg. These young people have more than 2 million followers on their platforms and, each with a different approach – ranging from entertainment to culture and education – have used their influence to highlight the importance of defending European democracy and encouraging participation in the last European Parliament elections.
During the meeting, Zarzalejos gave them an in-depth insight into the LIBE Committee’s current challenges with a special focus on the digital environment, security and citizens’ rights online. For their part, young content creators were able to share their concerns and speak from their experience on issues such as anonymity and hate speech online.
The meeting was very enriching for both sides. The young content creators expressed their intention to continue working with the European Parliament on initiatives to promote civic education. They also showed a keen interest in actively participating in the debate on the challenges Europe faces in the digital age.
