EUROJUST: ASSESSMENT AND PROSPECTS WITH ITS NEW PRESIDENT
On 2 December 2024, the European Parliament held the 5th Interparliamentary Meeting to evaluate the activities of Eurojust, the European agency for judicial cooperation in criminal matters.
The meeting, led by Javier Zarzalejos, Chairman of the LIBE Committee, and László Vigh, Vice-Chairman of the Hungarian Parliament’s Justice Committee, highlighted Eurojust’s contribution to the fight against organised crime, drug trafficking and war crimes.
Commissioner Michael McGrath opened the session by underlining the importance of Eurojust in strengthening the rule of law in the EU. For his part, the new President of Eurojust, Michael Schmid, presented the annual report and the agency’s strategic priorities, focusing on cross-border cooperation.
In addition, progress on the joint investigation teams on crimes in Ukraine and the need to further strengthen the agency’s resources were discussed.
Eurojust is a key agency for European justice and judicial cooperation between Member States.
