EVENT ON INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION TO COMBAT ORGANIZED CRIME AND DRUG TRAFFICKING

On Tuesday, March 4, Javier Zarzalejos MEP participated in the event “International cooperation to combat organized crime and drug trafficking”, organized by Assita Kanko MEP (ECR), coordinator of his group in the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE). The event was also attended by the European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Immigration, Magnus Brunner, together with several European police associations.

During his speech, Zarzalejos stressed the importance of strengthening European police forces to tackle the growing threat of organized crime and drug trafficking. He insisted that the security of European citizens depends on providing security forces with adequate resources and improving their operational capacity.

In addition, the MEP stressed the need for greater coordination between member states. The fight against organized crime cannot be tackled solely from a national perspective, but requires a common European approach, with more agile and effective cooperation mechanisms. In this regard, he highlighted the fundamental role of Europol and Eurojust in the exchange of information and the operability of cross-border investigations.

The event highlighted the urgency of adopting concrete measures to strengthen the European security framework. International cooperation is key in this fight, and the European Parliament will continue to work to provide police forces with the necessary tools to combat organized crime more effectively.
