JAVIER ZARZALEJOS PARTICIPATES IN THE HIGH-LEVEL FORUM ON THE FUTURE OF EU CRIMINAL JUSTICE

The Chair of the LIBE Committee of the European Parliament, Javier Zarzalejos, spoke on March 5 at the inaugural session of the High-Level Forum on the Future of EU Criminal Justice, organized by the European Commission in collaboration with the Polish Presidency of the Council. The event was attended by European Commissioner for Justice, Michael McGrath, and Polish Minister of Justice, Adam Bodnar.

During his speech, Zarzalejos emphasized the importance of a coherent and effective European criminal policy to strengthen the rule of law, ensure internal security, and protect fundamental rights. He also highlighted the LIBE Committee’s commitment to reinforcing judicial cooperation and harmonizing substantive and procedural criminal law in the EU, while respecting the diversity of national legal systems.

“Building a true European area of justice requires strengthening mutual trust between Member States, improving judicial cooperation, and ensuring respect for fundamental rights in criminal proceedings,” Zarzalejos stated.
