TRIBUTE TO THE VICTIMS OF TERRORISM IN STRASBOURG

March 11 marks the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism, a day established by the EU following the 2004 Madrid attacks.

In its 21st edition, the ceremony took place in Strasbourg, in an event co-organized by the European Commission and the French Republic.

The event was attended by the European Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs, Magnus Brunner; the President of France, Emmanuel Macron; and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. Javier Zarzalejos also participated in his capacity as Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice, and Home Affairs (LIBE).

The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the impact of terrorism, support victims, and strengthen unity and resilience across the EU. Additionally, a testimonial video was shown, featuring testimonies from four victims of terrorist attacks in Europe, including those in Vienna (2020), Brussels (2016), the Bataclan in Paris (2015), and Berlin (2016).
