MEETING WITH THE INTERPARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION OF THE SHURA COUNCIL OF SAUDI ARABIA

On April 3rd, Javier Zarzalejos, Chair of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament, met in Strasbourg with the interparliamentary delegation of the Shura Council of Saudi Arabia. During the meeting, the Saudi representatives presented their country’s progress in the areas of cybersecurity, data protection, and crime prevention, and emphasized the need for increased cooperation with the European Union in these fields. They also raised the possibility of exempting Saudi citizens from visa requirements when traveling to the EU, noting the positive impact this could have on tourism and investment.

Zarzalejos highlighted the importance of strengthening legal tools to enable security forces to combat digital crime effectively, without compromising privacy and data protection. Regarding visa policy, he noted that it is a complex issue currently under legislative review.
