MEETING WITH THE HEAD OF THE EGYPTIAN MISSION TO THE EU IN STRASBOURG
On June 18, MEP Javier Zarzalejos met in Strasbourg with Ahmed Abu Zeid, Head of the Egyptian Mission to the European Union. The meeting focused on various aspects of the current state of EU-Egypt relations, highlighting their strategic importance and Egypt’s role as a key partner for regional stability.
A central topic of the discussion was the new Returns Regulation recently proposed by the European Commission. MEP Zarzalejos outlined the main objectives of this legislative proposal, aimed at improving the effectiveness of return procedures within the EU and strengthening cooperation with countries of origin and transit.
Both parties also exchanged views on the potential update of the list of safe third countries, in which Egypt could play a significant role. They agreed on the importance of maintaining a fluid and constructive dialogue to advance closer cooperation in the areas of migration, security, and development.
