ZARZALEJOS PARTICIPATES IN THE SIGNING OF TWO NEW EUROPEAN REGULATIONS

Javier Zarzalejos, in his capacity as Chair of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), attended the signing ceremony of two new European regulations, held together with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and Denmark’s Minister for European Affairs, Marie Bjerre, whose country holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The legal acts signed include, on the one hand, the regulation strengthening procedural rules for the enforcement of the GDPR, with the aim of improving cooperation and consistency among data protection authorities; and, on the other, the revision of the visa suspension mechanism, which updates the conditions under which the Union may temporarily reintroduce visa requirements in situations of risk or abuse.
The signed texts had been led in the European Parliament by MEP Markéta Gregorová (Czech Republic), rapporteur for the regulation on GDPR enforcement procedures, and by MEP Matjaž Nemec (Slovenia), responsible for the proposal revising the visa suspension mechanism.
