MEETING WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE COUNCIL OF THE JUDICIARY OF THE AUTONOMOUS CITY OF BUENOS AIRES
Last Wednesday, June 7, representatives of the Council of the Judiciary of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA) went to the European Parliament to hold a meeting with MEP Javier Zarzalejos on priority issues for the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, especially issues related to justice, and on the challenges faced by both countries in this area.
The meeting was attended by the President of the Council of the Judiciary of the CABA, Francisco Javier Quintana, and the Councilor of the same organization, Alberto Biglieri; as well as the Deputy Secretary General and Director of Foreign Policies of the European People’s Group, Juan Salafranca.
Mr. Zarzalejos lamented the judicial situation in Spain, which is having a negative impact on the country’s society, causing a social morass and, consequently, economic tensions. Zarzalejos affirmed that Spain’s recovery in the jurisdictional field is key, and stressed the importance of promoting parliamentary diplomacy with Argentina.
The representatives of the Council of the Judiciary pointed out that “it is of great value to build ties with those actors whose role involves defining, protecting and promoting the fundamental values of the Union, and in this sense the Civil Liberties Commission is undoubtedly a fundamental piece”. Among the topics discussed at the meeting was the reflection on the role that both countries should adopt in judicial cooperation, fostering understanding and dialogue between them.
