ZARZALEJOS PARTICIPATES IN THE CONFERENCE “SPANISH PHARMACY AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE EUROPEAN HEALTH UNION”

On October 24, the conference “Spanish Pharmacy and its contribution to the construction of the European Health Union”, organized by the General Council of Pharmaceutical Associations, was held at the headquarters of the European Parliament in Spain.

A day that, coinciding with the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, started with the aim of addressing the important Community regulations that have a direct impact on Pharmacy. Jesús Aguilar, President of the General Council of Official Associations of Pharmacists (CGCOF), said that “the conference is a great opportunity to define what position we should adopt and defend in order to provide us with the best possible pharmacy model, at the service of the health and welfare of all Spanish and European citizens”.

Javier Zarzalejos took part in the round table “A patient-oriented European Health Data Space”. The regulation creating the European Health Data Space is currently in the process of being approved, the aim of which is to create a mandatory system and infrastructure that will allow the cross-border exchange and use of electronic health data based on interoperability and security.

Zarzalejos stressed that this new “space will allow the use of electronic health data by patients and for research, innovation, policy-making, patient safety, statistical or regulatory purposes. This new regulation will represent a qualitative leap in terms of protecting the health of Europeans.

On the specific question of the impact of the new legislation on Spanish pharmacy, Zarzalejos pointed out “the importance of the new regulation preserving the guaranteeing nature and unique configuration of the Spanish pharmaceutical system”. He also analyzed the impact that this new Space will have on the day-to-day work of pharmacists.
