SPEECH AT THE LIBE INTERPARLIAMENTARY MEETING ON THE STATE OF THE RULE OF LAW IN THE EU
We cannot accept that those who have seriously violated the Constitution go unpunished. 60% of Spaniards believe that the amnesty is unfair and is a privilege and 85% are very clear that the only explanation for the amnesty that will benefit the Catalan secessionists is that Pedro Sánchez can govern.
In Spain we cannot take the rule of law for granted when we see that it is going to go to parliamentary review of judicial decisions, when the amnesty means impunity for acts of embezzlement of terrorism and attacks on constitutional integrity, when there is absolutely no will to reform the model of election of the General Council of the Judiciary, as the European Commission has repeatedly said, when there is an absolute failure to comply with the recommendations on the Statute of the Public Prosecutor and the Attorney General of the State or when there is an unusual regression in the criminalization of the crime of embezzlement. Until the full integrity of the rule of law is restored in Spain, we will not rest.
