THE SPANISH DELEGATION OF THE EUROPEAN PEOPLE’S PARTY IN THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT HOLDS AN EVENT TO COMMEMORATE THE DAY OF HISPANIC NATIONALITY
The Spanish Delegation of the PP held an event to commemorate the National and Spanish National Day, in which tribute was paid to the State Security Forces and Corps. The event, which was attended by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, highlighted the invaluable work of the Police and Civil Guard in the defence of democracy and security in Spain and Europe.
Prior to the event, a meeting was held with representatives of seven police unions: SPP, JUPOL, CEP, JUCIL, AEGC, Unión de Oficiales and SUP. During this meeting, the Partido Popular MEP, Javier Zarzalejos, reaffirmed one of the key commitments of this legislature: ‘to protect those who protect us’. Zarzalejos stressed the importance of guaranteeing the rights and resources necessary for the security forces to be able to carry out their work with maximum efficiency and security.
During the event, the PP spokesperson in the European Parliament, Dolors Montserrat, emphasised the need to protect the Security Forces in a context of growing lack of protection. She criticised the Spanish government for handing over the Citizen Security Law to those who ‘threaten public order and security’, in reference to EH Bildu. For their part, the representatives of the police unions praised the work of the security forces and demanded more resources and equal pay, denouncing the fact that the Spanish government is leaving them abandoned.
Finally, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, highlighted the fundamental role of the Security Forces in the protection of democracy and freedom, emphasising Spain’s historical contribution to the European project and its role as a bridge between different cultures.
