MEETING WITH THE EUROPEAN AGENCY FOR SAFETY AND HEALTH AT WORK

On Friday, May 16, MEP Javier Zarzalejos held a meeting with William Cockburn, Executive Director of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA), based in Bilbao. During the visit, Zarzalejos toured the agency’s facilities and expressed interest in the work being done to improve working conditions across the European Union.

They exchanged views on the emerging challenges posed by teleworking, the ageing workforce, and mental health in the workplace. They also discussed the differences between EU member states in implementing occupational safety and prevention regulations, as well as the need to continue promoting common standards that ensure safe and healthy working environments.

Zarzalejos highlighted the important role of EU-OSHA as a key instrument for sharing best practices among member states and fostering a culture of prevention. He also emphasized the European Parliament’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen workplace safety as a pillar of a strong and competitive European social model.
