MEETING WITH THE MINISTER OF JUSTICE OF BULGARIA

Last Thursday, 16 October, MEP Javier Zarzalejos, in his capacity as Chair of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), held a meeting with the Bulgarian Minister of Justice, Georgi Georgiev. The discussion focused on the state of the Rule of Law in Bulgaria, progress on judicial reform, and the Bulgarian Government’s priorities in terms of transparency and the fight against corruption.
During the meeting, Minister Georgiev presented the main lines of action of his department aimed at strengthening judicial independence and improving the efficiency of the justice system. Mr Zarzalejos, for his part, underlined LIBE Committee’s commitment to monitoring the Rule of Law Mechanism and to maintaining constructive dialogue between European institutions and Member States.
The exchange highlighted the importance of maintaining close cooperation between the European Parliament and national governments on matters of justice and fundamental freedoms, particularly in a context of growing public demand for institutional integrity.
