RENEWABLE FUELS FORUM

On Monday, 23 January, the University of Deusto hosted a forum on renewable fuels organized jointly with Orkestra – Basque Institute of Competitiveness. Javier Zarzalejos took part in a roundtable discussion alongside PNV MEP Oihane Agirregoitia and Socialist MP Nicolás González Casares.

During the debate, the Basque MEP defended climate neutrality without a loss of competitiveness and advocated for an energy transition that strengthens European industry and strategic independence. He also stressed the importance of implementing the RED III Directive with flexibility and of advancing regulatory simplification in order not to hinder innovation in renewable fuels.

Zarzalejos called for less bureaucracy and greater agility in the transposition of European legislation, while warning that much remains to be done. In this regard, he stated that deregulation should not be equated with regulatory instability, as legal certainty is key to attracting investment and providing predictability to the sector.
