VISIT OF THE STUDENTS OF THE FRANCISCO DE VITORIA UNIVERSITY

Last Thursday, October 13, MEP Javier Zarzalejos received a group of students from the Francisco de Vitoria University in the European Parliament.

During the talk, the MEP began by highlighting the role of the European Union as a peace project and the importance of this in the face of the war in Ukraine, explaining to them how Europe must face a very complicated reality and for which perhaps European public opinion is not well equipped.

Along the same lines, Mr. Zarzalejos has stressed how citizen and institutional unity is being maintained in the face of Putin’s barbarism and how the war has rediscovered the need to maintain a solid transatlantic relationship, mentioning the fundamental role of the Organization of North Atlantic Treaty (NATO). In addition, the MEP has pointed out the complexity of the war against disinformation and cyber attacks.

The MEP also alluded to the European Union as a community of law, stressing the importance of respecting the rule of law in the face of practices that endanger it, such as populism or attacks on judicial independence.

Mr. Zarzalejos has also introduced the students to the various institutions of the European Union, as well as the evolution of its powers in various areas, such as, for example, the crucial role of the institution in terms of health during the pandemic. Finally, the MEP explained to the students how the future of Europe requires a completely new strategic agenda.
