The LIBE Committee, chaired by Javier Zarzalejos, held on 20 November the 6th Interparliamentary Meeting on the Evaluation of Eurojust, bringing together MEPs, representatives of national parliaments, and senior officials from the Commission and Eurojust to assess the current state of European judicial cooperation.<\/p>\n

Zarzalejos opened the session by stressing the importance of parliamentary oversight of justice agencies and the need to strengthen their operational capacity in a context of growing cross-border criminality.<\/p>\n

The meeting was structured into three thematic sessions:<\/p>\n

  1. Eurojust Annual Report and Future Outlook<\/strong>
    \nEurojust President Michael Schmid presented the agency\u2019s main achievements over the past year, highlighting the increase in complex cross-border cases and the expanded use of operational coordination centres. After his intervention, national and European parliamentarians addressed issues related to interoperability, data sharing, and cooperation with third countries.<\/li>\n
  2. Fight Against Economic Crime<\/strong>
    \nThe second session focused on Eurojust\u2019s role in tackling fraud, money laundering, and asset recovery. Eurojust Vice-Presidents Margarita \u0160niutyt\u0117-Daug\u0117lien\u0117 and Jos\u00e9 de la Mata presented the operational challenges and the need to strengthen freezing and confiscation mechanisms in the EU. The subsequent debate centred on coordination with national prosecutors and the impact of increasingly sophisticated criminal structures.<\/li>\n
  3. Evaluation of the Eurojust Regulation<\/strong>
    \nThe final session brought together the European Commission representative Ingrid Breit (DG JUST) and President Schmid once again to examine prospects for revising the Eurojust Regulation. Discussions covered potential improvements in information exchange, digital capabilities, and agency governance.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Zarzalejos closed the meeting by emphasising the importance of maintaining a fluid dialogue between institutions and national parliaments to anticipate future reforms and ensure that Eurojust has the resources necessary to fulfil its mandate.<\/p>\n
