On October 24, the European Parliament hosted a Seminar on regulatory responses to disinformation and cybersecurity threats in Europe, which was organized by the PP and MEP Isabel Benjumea.<\/p>\n
Faced with this growing threat, MEPs and experts met to study the regulatory proposals from different countries: from the bills presented on this matter in the United States in the last two years, to the approval of laws on the subject in countries such as France and Germany, as well as jurisdictional responses in Spain or Italy, and resolutions of electoral bodies in countries like Brazil, Costa Rica or Mexico.<\/p>\n
This took place during the first part of the seminar, which included the participation of important experts, such as Carmen Romero, NATO Deputy Secretary General for Diplomatic Affairs; Loreto Corredoira, professor of Communication Law at the Complutense University; o Rafael Rubio, Professor of Constitutional Law at the Complutense University.<\/p>\n
In the second part of the conference, the responses of the European Union in this field were analysed. MEP Javier Zarzalejos participated as a speaker and analyzed the proposals put forward within the framework of the Special Commission on foreign interference in all democratic processes in the European Union, particularly disinformation.<\/p>\n
During his speech, he stated that “the war of aggression against Ukraine allows us to see in all its seriousness what the strategies of disinformation and interference mean.”<\/p>\n
