THE PP DENOUNCES THE PSOE’S WHITEWASHING OF BILDU AND DICTATORS LIKE MADURO IN THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

On 24 April in the plenary session of the European Parliament, the People’s Party denounced the PSOE’s whitewashing of the political heir of ETA’s Bildu party and dictators such as Nicolás Maduro.

She did so in the debate on totalitarianism, in which the Vice-President of the Group of the European People’s Party, Dolors Montserrat, said that “the EPP, a pioneer in the European project since its creation and firm in the face of totalitarianism, will not accept a single lesson from this sectarian socialism”.

“My party has always condemned totalitarianism and dictatorships, both past and present, such as those in Latin America. Meanwhile, Montserrat pointed out that “Sánchez’s people in Europe are using this debate to spout lies about the Partido Popular”.

Meanwhile, MEP Javier Zarzalejos reproached the PSOE for daring to talk about democratic memory “when their partner is a party that does not condemn the almost 900 murders by the terrorist group ETA”.

“How dare you, who depend on parties that want to destroy the Spanish Constitution, the Constitution of freedoms and reconciliation, talk about democratic memory,” he added.

“How dare they talk about Memory in order to disqualify a party that has paid a tragic tribute in blood like no other for defending the Constitution, the nation and freedom in Spain.

Zarzalejos concluded by saying that the PSOE’s idea of historical memory “is summed up in the shameless display of Pedro Sánchez photographing himself surrounded by the remains of victims of the Civil War.  This image of indignity defines them and European socialists should not allow themselves to be dragged down by this image”.
